Shanghai's Skyscrapers at the River Blanketed by Smog
Soaring, Shanghai, 2015
A bird is soaring in front of Shanghai's mushrooming skyscrapers in the Lujiazui district East of the Huangpu River, trying to escape the rising pollution levels that make the metropolises highest towers nearly invisible. As Shanghai's main rivers have been cleaned up, the egret birds have reappeared and are now a steady presence at the riverside, however, same as the human population they are threatened by many days of heavy pollution each year.
